Borgo Orfeo is an old hamlet in Umbria, surrounded by the landscape and rhythms of rural life.
We are restoring its buildings and caring for the place, step by step, together with local professionals and the people who are part of its life.
But the transformation is about more than buildings.
It is also about remembering the stories held here, nurturing connections and discovering how this place can continue to be lived in, cared for and shared.
A village that knew how to gather
The story of Borgo Orfeo did not begin with us.
In earlier times, the village bazaar was a meeting place for people from the surrounding countryside. They brought produce, exchanged news and caught up with one another. Bread was baked in the communal oven, and food and stories were shared.
Castelvecchio also had its own small school, post office and telephone booth.
Everyday life connected people.
Today, we listen to the memories of those who knew the village then, while discovering what its next chapter might hold.
The work continues
Some days are about restoring a building or solving a practical challenge. Others are about a conversation on the terrace, a shared meal, a story from a neighbour or an unexpected encounter.
All these moments are part of the journey.
We don't have every step mapped out.
We are learning as we go, respecting the character of the place and allowing new possibilities to emerge through real relationships.
